Profile - Dr. Sujata Dutta Hazarika

Dr. Sujata Dutta Hazarika www,drsujataduttahazarika.com is a sociologist with eighteen years of experience in research in areas of sustainability and public policy, governance, sustainable development, education and natural resource management. Founder faculty of Sociology in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Guwahati from 2004, In 2009, she initiated the North East Centre For Research and Development IGNOU as the overall in charge of the national centre established by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to facilitate public policy research in North East India. NECRD IGNOU was set with the objective to create a think-tank for the region to, document, facilitate and manage its an authentic data base for its vast, diverse and unexplored natural and bio-cultural resources that could facilitate and Impact Public policy and Development planning in North East India.

She was awarded the Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship for the year 2010-2011 and hosted by Institute for the Study of Societal Issues (ISSI), University of California Berkeley to work on EcoVillage initiatives in United States: Understanding Social Change in the new consciousness of Sustainability’. She is the recipient of Post Doctoral Research Fellowship by ICSSR (Indian council of social science Research) and FMSH ( Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme.) France in the frame of the Indo-French Programme of Cooperation in Social Sciences. 2016. She was invited to a scientist visitorship at the INRA( Institut national de la recherche agronomique (INRA) Centre d’Economie et de Sociologie appliquées à l’Agriculture et aux Espaces Ruraux. laboratory. Dijon Cedex France to work on a research project “A comparative study of organic farming in Assam,India with the French model of Organic farming emphasizing enhanced capacities of informal, indigenous local knowledge through formal strategies of ICT and sustainable business management.

She is the founder of GISDP(Global Initiative For Sustainable Development and Planning),www.gisdp.org, a Global, North-South think tank initiative to redefine economy and business through sustainable public policy grounded on innovation, inclusion, access, equity, environment . Currently she is additional director at IGNOU Kolkata Regional Centre, her services dedicated and aligned to the broader mandate of IGNOU, democratize education for the creation of an inclusive knowledge based society through technology mediated open and distance learning.
